Strawberry-less

This Sunday Katie and I had planned to go strawberry picking.  But severe thunderstorms were predicted and so we didn’t go.  Of COURSE since we didn’t go there were no storms until late late that night.  *sighs*  Murphy’s law.  Hopefully we can go next weekend.
Turns out Sunday had us going down to the Apple store [...]

Mushrooms

Mushrooms, originally uploaded by Rachel Gogan.

As I walked into work this morning I was startled to see that a whole bunch of little mushrooms had popped up in the lawn outside my building. Seemingly overnight!
I dug my camera out of my bag since I had about three minutes before I’d be late and I [...]

The Persian Boy by Mary Renault
An exquisitely written book, unnerving and haunting but sweet and tender at the same time.
I found this book even better than the first (Fire From Heaven). Bagoas is an excellent narrator and through his eyes Alexander is made out to be a god and a human in the same breath. [...]

This morning I was looking through our wedding pictures this morning and I just HAD to share this picture. It’s a beautiful picture of the family that I was lucky to be added to when I married my beautiful wife.
And I LOVE the BIG smile she’s got [...]

This weekend is the South Berwick Strawberry Festival, Katie and I will be going with her mum and dad! It should be nice. Lots of strawberry shortcake/cheesecake and last year we got an incredible mailbox piggy bank thing. I love that.
On Sunday we’ll be going to Butternut Farm to pick some strawberries [...]

Evil Stairmaster

Katie and I headed to a cookout with her mum and dad today, but before that we made a trip to the gym.
I watched Ninja Turtles!  Still crazy about the TV thing :)  And for something new we decided to try the stair climbing machine.
Big mistake.  That escalator like machine is now dubbed the reverse [...]

Happy Solstice

Happy Solstice everyone!
Today is the longest day of the year, so get out there and enjoy the extra sunlight.  Soak it up (but don’t get burned).
Tonight I’m going to a potluck dinner with a bunch of friends.  I still have no idea what Katie and I are going to bring.  *laughs*  Oh well, I still [...]

I’ll cover you

I’ll cover you, originally uploaded by Rachel Gogan.

I have to say… Wordle.net is the COOLEST thing I’ve played with in a long time.
Go try it out! I can make a word cloud with your del.icio.us tags! And any other random text you happen to want to try. Like this song: “I’ll Cover [...]

We headed down to Harvard (thankfully the red line was back up and running again, it went down for part of Saturday.  We had lunch at Wagamama, and I couldn’t help but get [...]

It’s summer and so tons of people are suddenly wanting to get fit again.  I’m one of them.  Although for me it’s not so much so that I can ‘get into a bathing suit’ or something like that.  I’ve kind of given up on the idea that I will ever ‘look good’ in a bathing [...]

Rainbow Waving and Lush

Rainbow Waving, originally uploaded by Rachel Gogan.

One of the more colorful marchers in the parade on Saturday. I’ve been contemplating setting it as a background on my desktop today since it’s so dreary out here. Rainy and overcast since yesterday, and that’s the forecast for the whole week I’m told. Just when [...]

Us at Pride

Us at Pride, originally uploaded by Rachel Gogan.

Today Katie and I headed down to Boston for the Gay Pride Parade.
We had a FANTASTIC time. It’s just an awesome time. We ran into some kids from Keene State College and they sort of adopted us into their group since we were on [...]

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR MARGINS
OK, so until we can get Microsoft to change the default margins in Word, here’s how to do it on your own. It should take no more than twenty seconds and just a few clicks of the mouse. [...]

Nutrition Bar Study

This morning I participated in the first of six sessions of a Nutrition Bar study being conducted by one of our grads from upstairs.
They tested my blood sugar with a fingerstick and then I ate a slice of whitebread.  Then she checked my blood sugar six times over the course of two hours.  I got [...]

WordPress Tutorial

Today I’m working on creating a wordpress step by step tutorial for our new blog-ified newsletter.
It involves LOTS of screencapping and pasting :)  I’m enjoying it even though it’s very time consuming.  Soon I hope to put together a presentation on the whole thing.

Book Review: Rose Daughter by Robin McKinley
This book is a fairy tale. A retelling of Beauty and the Beast by a very talented wordsmith. The entire book is written in the style of a fairy tale, just as though it were being handed down through some kind of oral tradition. The flavors [...]

Too hot to move!

Too hot to move!, originally uploaded by Rachel Gogan.
Today at work I’m feeling the same way as those kitties.
When I arrived at work this morning at 8 AM it was 81 degrees in BioSci with 39 percent humidity.
At 10:45 AM it’s now climbed to 86 degrees with 33 percent humidity. So in slightly less [...]
